Irene Mae Duggan, 85, formerly of Ryan, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa, after a courageous battle with cancer.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ryan with the Rev. Jack Flaherty officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Manchester. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Ryan.

Irene was born February 8, 1923 in Ryan to Fred and Leah Vifian, the youngest of 12 children. She graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Ryan in 1941 and married Donald Vincent Duggan on September 17, 1942. They lived in Ryan until 1974 and then moved to Cedar Rapids. Irene was employed at Rockwell-Collins from 1965 to 1983.

Irene was a member of the Ryan American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed walking, crocheting, bingo and playing cards.

Irene is survived by her three sons, Dick (Kay) Duggan of St. Louis, MO, David (Mary) Duggan of Phoenix, AZ and Gary (Janice) Duggan of Marion; seven grandchildren, Abby Kabat, Greg Duggan, Brian Duggan, Dana Harnish, Molly Brown, Andy Duggan and Katie Duggan; and seven great-grandchildren.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Duggan in 1980; her parents, Fred and Leah Vifian; four brothers, Charlie, Freddie, Louis, and George; and seven sisters, Bertha, Eva, Flora, Letha, Lucille, Marguerite and Rosie.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their tender love and care of Irene.
