Irene M. Cornwell, 76, of Earlville, died Saturday, January 28, 2006 at St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following complications of a stroke.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville by Rev. Roger McKinstry. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Monday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville and one hour before services Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Earlville.
Irene was born May 6, 1929 in Manchester, the daughter of Raymond D. and Elise R. (Robinson) Hutchinson. She attended St. Mary?s School. On December 6, 1943 Irene was united in marriage to Vernon J. Cornwell in Manchester. The couple settled in the Manchester area before moving to Earlville in 1958. Irene worked at the MarJo Hotel in Earlville, as a waitress at the HiHo Restaurant and for Clifton Funeral Home. She provided care for her daughter, Linda for thirty-nine years.
Irene was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville. She volunteered with the American Heart and Diabetes Associations, Easter Seals, St. Luke?s Auxiliary and Dakota School for Indians. Irene enjoyed reading her Bible, crocheting and flower gardening.
Irene is survived by her husband, Vernon Cornwell of Earlville; eight children, Terry L. (Kathryn) Cornwell of Lamont, Karen K. (Donald) Rettinger of Manchester, Rick (Lolly) Cornwell of Delaware, Brenda K. Letts (William Young) of Manchester, Michael Cornwell of Earlville, Rhonda K. Cornwell of Earlville, Rodney (Jeannine) Cornwell of Lamont and Linda K. Cornwell of Earlville; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Mary) Hutchinson of Manchester and Richard (Georgia) Hutchinson of Edgewood; a sister, Della M. Letner of Cedar Rapids.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond & Elsie Hutchinson; a granddaughter, Amanda Kay Cornwell; three brothers, Harold, James Alfred and Leo Hutchinson; a sister, Betty Lou Fierstein; and twin brother & sister infants.
