Ina L. Wittmer Pewitt, 88, of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord, at Mercy Medical Center, Sunday, January 15, 2012, after a lengthy illness. Cedar Rapids. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2012, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Thomas Osterkamp and grandson, Rev. Brian Pettit. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 19 at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Roy; her son, Larry (Kathy) Wittmer of Cedar Rapids; son-in-law, Leon Pettit of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three stepchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; sister, Maxine Schwartz of Des Moines; brother-in-law, Gene Cockerell of Des Moines; and sisters-in-law, Retha Tweedy of Kansas and Jackie Tweedy of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Walter; daughter, Beverly Pettit; three sisters, Evelyn Tweedy, Helen Ursuery and Wanda Cockerell; three brothers, Robert (Helenna), Raymond and Joe Tweedy; and brother-in-law, Dale Schwartz..
Ina was born February 28, 1923, the daughter of Charles and Ina (Mulinix) Tweedy, in Fairfield, Iowa. A graduate from Libertyville High School in 1940, she married Walter Wittmer in 1940. He died in 1985. Ina married Roy Pewitt 1986, and they lived in rural Riverside and Florida, before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1989. Ina worked at Children’s Hospital and in home healthcare for terminally ill.
Ina loved to cook and entertain often. She was always willing to give help to others. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, and most of all she loved spending time with her grandkids.
She was a member of Good News Baptist Church, VFW Auxiliary, Caleb Club and Gideons Auxiliary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous in memory of Ina.
