Imogene C. Smith, 92, of Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion and Coggon, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, at Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Springville Presbyterian Church, Springville, by Dr. Rev. Karen Downey Beals. Imogene was cremated and the family will greet friends from 4 - 8 p.m., Monday, January 5, 2009 at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion. A private family burial will take place at Springville Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis (Kenny) Hoge of Springville and Linda (Jim) Kaas of Cedar Rapids; 1 brother, Harve Christian, Jr. of Arizona; 5 grandchildren, Nicole (Tym) Healey, Randy (Jana) Stambaugh, Heidi (Mike) Bernet, Molly (Bob) Anderson, and Andy (Christina) Hoge; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley “Bud”; 1 sister, Maurine Levsen; and 2 brothers, Burdette and Donald.

Imogene was born November 24, 1916, the daughter of Harve and Ethel (Cashman) Christian, in Linn County, Iowa. She married Stanley “Bud” Smith on November 2, 1941 in Hannibal, Missouri. He died May 2, 2008.

Imogene and her husband owned the Coggon Livestock Sales Company for over forty years. She was a longtime member of the Springville Presbyterian Church, the Springville American Legion Post #331 Auxiliary, and the Springville Alumni Association. She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother…and did we mention she loved the color purple?

A memorial fund has been established in Imogene’s memory.
