Ilene Ruth Meier

Ilene Ruth Meier, 83, of Walker, Iowa, died Friday afternoon, June 30, 2006, in Buchanan County Care Center, Independence, Iowa, following a long illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2006 at Walker United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Diane Mitchell. Burial: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Oelwein, Iowa. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Walker, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband, Lowell; her children, Joyce Risdon, Lowell (Karen) Meier, Jr., and Rita (Jerry) Wiltsey, all of Walker, and Bill (Penny) Meier of Marion; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Jackie; and four sisters, Marilyn, Helen, Shelby and Ruth.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
Born May 24, 1923, in Elkader, Iowa, to Albert and Mina Adams Holden, she married Lowell E. Meier, Sr. on August 2, 1941, in Independence, Iowa. She worked for twenty-six years at the Mental Health Institute in Independence. Ilene was a member of the Red Hat Society and a thirty-five year member of the Early V-8 Club.
