Visitation: 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, conducted by Father David O’Connor. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Ida is survived by her son, Thomas Spratt of Marion; daughters, Allison Harkness (Kevin Kuch) of Marion and Linda Spratt of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Kyle Harkness and Megan Harkness, both of Marion; and great-grandchildren, Tayton of Cedar Rapids, Carter of Marion, and Wyatt of Center Point.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Spratt; second husband, Dean Shannon; brothers, Thomas, James, Clarence, and Clement; and sisters, Irene, Nelly, Marcella and Gen.

Ida was born October 16, 1914, in Cosgrove, Iowa, the daughter of William and Margaret (Murphy) Organ. She graduated from Cosgrove High School in 1932 as valedictorian of her class. In 1941, Ida married Raymond Spratt in Iowa City. She followed him to San Francisco as he repaired U.S. Navy ships at Hunter’s Point Shipyard during World War II. She returned to Iowa in 1946 and settled in Marion to raise her family. Raymond passed away in 1987. Ida married Dean Shannon in 1988.

Ida was an avid reader and a close follower of news and events. At the age of 94, she self-taught herself computer skills on a Windows 95 computer system. She delighted in beating the computer in bridge games with excited yelps and howls. Ida was a loyal follower of the Marion Indians and Iowa Hawkeyes most of her life. Her favorite teacher was, Sister Joseph Marie, who she marveled as a “certain saint” for putting up with her kids all day long. Ida was a proud member of the ‘greatest generation’. The family always looked forward to holiday dinners especially her homemade beef and noodles. It was a delicacy that no one could recreate.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Willow Gardens Care Center for the wonderful care, compassion, and love they shown to Ida.

Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1790 14th Street, Marion, Iowa 52302.
