Hunter Caleb Ackerman, 22, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 22, 2021. A Celebration of Hunter’s Life will be held from 3 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Ashton Hill Farm located at 803 Vernon Valley Drive in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion is assisting Hunter’s family.

Hunter was born on September 14, 1998, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Jerry and Doris (Wolrab) Ackerman. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 2017. Hunter was employed at Neumiller Electrical as an electrician apprentice. He loved motorcycles, Iowa wrestling, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his friends and family, especially his niece Cami who thought her Uncle Hunty was lots of fun. Hunter was generous with a huge heart, always doing for others, never expecting anything in return. He had a servant’s heart. Hunter will be greatly missed by all those who were honored enough to know him.

Anyone that Hunter was friends with, you were his family, whether you are 65 or 14, he would drop anything for a friend in need, especially if shenanigans could be had. If you were his buddy, you know he could and would talk you into absolutely anything and everything, especially the things you should NOT be doing, and just so many burnouts, the louder and more smoke-filled the better! Hunter was always readily equipped with a sarcastic quip or a perfectly fitting movie quote. He could make absolutely anyone laugh and everyone fell fast in love with his genuine ability to show he cared.

Hunter blessed people with his gigantic heart for helping, most recently with his newly acquired skills as an electrician, helping family, friends and even strangers with home projects. He had a hard time taking pay from family and friends, but we all tried to force it on him even though he was an unwilling recipient. He was the perfect example of guy who loved to give more than receive.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his mother, Doris Ackerman of Cedar Rapids; father and step-mother, Jerry and Jill Ackerman of Marion; two sisters, Brianne (Charlie) Ceballos of Lombard, Illinois and Taylor Ackerman of Cedar Rapids; step-brother, Brock Hanna of Marion; niece, Cambria Merlynn Kowalsky of Cedar Rapids; maternal grandparents, Vince Sr. and Ardyce Wolrab of Solon, Iowa; paternal grandmother, Coleen Ackerman of Shell Rock, Iowa; aunts and uncles, Laura and (Tom) Lucke, Lance (Karen) Wolrab, Wendy (Dave) Christian, Dale (Michelle) Franklin, Vince (Stacy) Wolrab, Scott Wolrab, Gene (Karen) Ackerman and Jason Ackerman; and too many beloved cousins to count.

Hunter was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Merlin Ackerman; uncle, John Franklin; special cousin, Gabriel Wolrab.

Hunter loved & protected his mama fiercely, was his dad’s best friend and was the best brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, cousin, and friend anyone could ask for. Anytime you hear a tire burnout, the growl of a wide-open throttle motorcycle engine or the rumble and rollin’ coal of a diesel truck, that’s Hunter Ackerman giving you a wink from heaven, smiling down on you with his iconic smirk. He loved you. God loves you...and your tattoos.

Memorials in Hunter’s memory may be directed to a college trust to be set up for his two nieces, Cambria Merlynn and soon to be Rosalia Grace by Venmo @Hunter-Ackerman-5.
