Hubert L. Slocum, 84, of 6017 Underwood Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, died at his home Saturday, January 11, 2003, after a short illness. Private memorial services will be held. Burial will be at Dunkard Cemetery, rural Toddville, at a later date. Arrangements are by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include a son, William Slocum of Cedar Rapids; and a stepdaughter, Thelma Miller of Toddville.
Also surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Sherry; a grandson, David; and a stepson, George.
Hubert was born the son of Albert and Margaret Dougherty Slocum on May 18, 1918, in Cedar Rapids. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty? McCown on November 16, 1952. She died July 4, 1988. Hubert served in North Africa and Italy with the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was employed by Iowa Electric as a water analysis technician, retiring in 1983. Hubert was a former member of Marion American Legion Post 298.
