Howard R. Willard, 78, of 1136 31st Street N.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, May 24, 2007, in his home following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Dan Krueger. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 28, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Marge; his children, Howard L. Willard of Panama City, Florida, Vickie (Jan) Stalmarck of Wasilla, Alaska, George (Lana) Willard of Cedar Rapids, Sherry Willard of Independence, Iowa and Debra (Tom) Fleming of Heber Springs, Arkansas; grandchildren, Andrew, Alex, Aymie, Tommy, Derek, Shay, Severin, Faith and Christopher; great grandchildren, Wyatt, Mason, Kristina and Shawn; and a brother, Russell Willard of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jason Fleming; a daughter, Jacqueline; and a sister, Vera.
Howard was born August 18, 1928, on the farm in Coggan, Iowa, to George and Goldie (Pratt) Willard. On April 19, 1952, he was united in marriage to Margaret Scherbaum in Vinton, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. Howard was employed as a machine shop final inspector for Harnischfeger for 26 ½ years.
Howard enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping. He was a member of the American Legion Hanford Post #5 and the Veterans Public Safety Unit in Cedar Rapids.
