Howard William "Howie? McCarthy, 67, of 2295 Winchester Drive, Marion, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 16, 2005, after a 1 ? year battle with leukemia. Services: Noon Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church, Marion by the Rev. Thomas Hedtke. Friends may call at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, from 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; his children, Kevin W. McCarthy (Kim) of Marion, Kori L. Bullock (Tom) of Longmont, Colorado, Allison M. Schmidt (Rick) of Marion and Aaron G. McCarthy (Tracy) of Marion; his mother, Erma McCarthy of Harvard, Illinois; and fourteen grandchildren, Lyndsie, Austin, Katie, Heath, Colin William, Kyle, Alexa, Marissa, Alyssa, Gage, Tommy, Ryan, Luke and Matthew William.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard D. McCarthy.

Born April 3, 1938, in Harvard, Illinois, to Howard D. and Erma Piske McCarthy, he married Alice Meseck in Corinth, Mississippi, on April 28, 1958. Howard received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering at the University of Illinois. He was employed at Rockwell for thirty-three years, retiring in 1993. Howard was a member of St. Paul?s Lutheran Church.

First and foremost, Howie loved the Lord and enjoyed the many blessings of his loving family. He was an avid golfer and especially enjoyed his time on the golf course with family and friends. Howie and Alice spent precious time together on Sanibel Island. The calming effects of the ocean created eternal memories. Howie?s life was a reflection of his faith, devotion and love to all that knew him. His belief in God, integrity and humor leaves us all with a legacy that will live on forever.
