Howard D. Hauskins, 83, a resident of Northbrook Manor, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion, by Pastor Ken DeWitt and Pastor Del Bear. The family will greet friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Private family burial: Lafayette Cemetery, Alburnett.
He is survived by his children, Kathie Hauskins of Hiawatha, Tom (Deb) Hauskins of Marion, Tim (Shawn) Hauskins of Hiawatha, and Kevin (Karen) Hauskins of Marion; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, David (Nadine) Hauskins of Grand Rapids, MI; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; son, Kenny; sister, Birdella Jean; three brothers, Ward, Russell, and Donald Hauskins; and one brother-in-law, Kenneth D. Holvenstot.
Howard was born November 16, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Orville and Dorothy (Ward) Hauskins. He graduated from Shueyville High School with the Class of ’47 and was an alumnus of Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Howard married Mary Holvenstot on December 30, 1950, in Cedar Rapids. Mary died on February 29, 1996. Howard was employed at Collins Radio for 18 years and later worked for Johnson Nut Company. He was also a longtime farmer. Howard was a member of Lafayette Christian Church, President of Kings Fellowship Circle, and a member of Good News Baptist Church Caleb Club. Howard has been a Gospel singer all of his life, and traveled with his sons as the “Hauskins Singers” throughout the Midwest.
