Howard J. Eichhorn, 75, of 115 Cedar Drive, Marion, died, Saturday, September 13, 2008, at his home following a sudden illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. Del Bear. The family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m., Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at the funeral home. Graveside Service: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2008, Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene of Marion; his children, Diane (Greg) Loeffler of Montana, Bradley (Terry) Eichhorn of Marengo, Kathryn (Grant) Fletcher of Marion, Lisa (Delaney Sallee) Eichhorn and Christine Eichhorn, both of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Luella Eichhorn of Wyoming, Iowa; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, John and Richard Eichhorn; and a sister-in-law, Margaret.

Howard was born July 17, 1933, the son of Peter and Alice (Messner) Eichhorn, in Wyoming, Iowa. He graduated from Wyoming High School in 1951 and then from Coe College in 1957, earning a BA degree and later finished his MBA from Washington University in S. Louis in 1959. Howard married Marlene Benning on July 24, 1955 in Wyoming, Iowa. He worked at Peat-Marwick-Mitchell and Co. for 5 years. He then was a founding partner of Dee Gosling. After leaving Dee Gosling in 1984, Howard started Wooden Nickel Capital Consultants and was a partner in Diversified Auctions. In 1988, he started Eichhorn Tax Preparation Services in Marion and was later joined in the business by his daughter, Lisa. Howard was a past president of the Cedar Rapids Chapter of the National Association of Accountants in addition to serving on various national committees, as well as a national director. He was a 53-year member of the Wyoming American Legion as well as a U.S. Army Veteran.
