Howard Leroy Cress, 65, of Troy Mills, died, Friday, June 6, 2008, at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at Troy Mills Christian Church, by Rev. Jamie Wolf. The family will greet friends from 4:00 ?" 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 9, 2008 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Norma; his children, Jennifer (David) Slife of Toddville, Jeff (Jill) Hopkins of Bettendorf, Shelly (Monte) Ruprecht of Toddville, Jill (Pat Conlin) Hopkins of Springville, and Sandra (Jeff) Ahrendsen of Toddville; his mother Vivian Infield of Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin; 2 sisters, Jane (Keith) Beresford of Cedar Rapids and Joetta (Bruce) Klendworth of Troy Mills; 11 grandchildren, Libby, Anna, Paige, Mitch, Myles, Riley, Sidney, Benét, Mitch, Lucas, and Samantha; one great-grandchild, Olivia; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Cress, and his step-father, Eddie Infield.
Howard was born May 10, 1943, the son of Carl and Vivian (Ramsey) Cress in Troy Mills, Iowa. He graduated from Troy Mills High School in 1961. Howard married Norma Hoge on April 23, 1976. Howard retired in 2005 after 44 years with the Linn County Road Department. He was a member of the Troy Mills Christian Church and the Iowa Fireman’s Association. Howard enjoyed fishing, hunting, being in the timber, cooking on an outdoor fire, using his smokehouse, and analyzing the weather. He will be remembered not only for his love of family, but for the importance of the many friends he and Norma shared.
Instead of flowers, memorials in Howard’s memory may be directed to the family for a fund to benefit the Troy Mills Little League Ball Diamond.
