Hillis D. Henderson, 86, of Ryan, Iowa, died Monday, January 18, 2010, at the Regional Medical Center, Manchester, Iowa, following a sudden illness.
Burial of cremains will be in Mills Cemetery, Central City, at a later date. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
Hillis was born on May 15, 1923, in Central City, Iowa, the son of E. Wayne & Bessie [Goodlove] Henderson. He attended the little red school house in Central City and then graduated from Coggon High School. Hillis was married to Viola Betenbender in Cedar Rapids. Hillis then raised and milked brown Swiss cattle. He also hauled milk, groceries for local stores, and ran a roller skating rink in Central City.
Hillis enjoyed the outside. He and his daughter, Keitha, were partners in their dairy operation. Hillis also enjoyed watching baseball.
Hillis is survived by his daughter, Keitha Kay Henderson of Ryan; a brother, Victor [Edna] Henderson of Independence; four sisters, Joyce Henderson of Arlington, DeVe Sauer of Marion, and twins, Belva Caryl of Arizona and Betty Mills of Colorado.
Hillis was preceded in death by his parents, E. Wayne & Bessie Henderson; his wife, Viola Henderson on November 15, 2005; a brother, John Henderson; a sister, Joanna Anderson; three brothers-in-law, Frank Sauer, Emery Caryl and Darell Mills.
