Hillard Harold Aldrich, 95, went home to be with the Lord on June 29. He was born near Lansing, Iowa, on February 6, 1915, the son of Willard and Constance Aldrich. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Amy MacDougall; a brother, Sidney; six children, Judy (Ken) Buch, Wendell (Mary), Stanley (Doris), Wayne, Betty (Gary) Karkosh, and Donna (Mark) Anderson; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Harold came to Cedar Rapids in 1953. His creativity, people skills, and integrity were employed in his various professions including farming, driving streetcars, and working for the Cedar Rapids Parks Department. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. He loved telling stories, helping others, serving God and being with his family.
The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, July 1, from 4-7 p.m. at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Family and friends will be celebrating Harold’s life on Friday, July 2 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids by Pastor Rev. Jay Jentink. A graveside service will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Center Baptist Church near Lansing, Iowa.
