Herman J. Geistkemper, 88, of Earlville, Iowa, died March 18, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center, Dyersville, Iowa, following a lingering illness.
A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, Earlville, with Rev. Herbert Tegeler, Rev. Herb Pins and Rev. Mike Tauke celebrating. Friends may call from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville, where there will be a 4:00 pm Scripture Service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Herman was born on November 16, 1917, in Petersburg, Iowa the son of Hubert & Rose (Kramer) Geistkemper. He attended St. Peter & Paul Parochial school in Petersburg then helped on the family farm. On September 8, 1941, Herman was united in marriage to Annetta H. Tauke at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. The couple farmed north of Earlville, and in 1980 they retired and moved into town. Herman and Annetta shared 62 years of marriage together.
Herman was a member of St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Earlville. He was a past-member of the St. Joseph?s Catholic Cemetery and Earlville Cooperative Creamery Boards. Herman enjoyed fishing and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Herman is survived by eight children and their spouses, John (Carla) Geistkemper of Earlville, Dave (Judy) Geistkemper of Dyersville, Carol (Don) Grawe of Hazel Green , WI, Marilyn (Lyle) Andersen of Springville, Betty (Steve) Gassmann of Indianola, Jean (Jim) Woolf of Phillips, WI, Joe (Barb) Geistkemper of Earlville and Tom Geistkemper of Blairstown; eighteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Alfred (Verna) Geistkemper of Savanna, Illinois, Ray (Millie) Geistkemper and Daniel (Sandy) Geistkemper, all of Dyersville; and three sisters, Ethel Pins of Earlville, Dorothy (Harold) Lake of Colesburg and Joan (Tom) Ament of Gilbertville; step-mother, Delores Deutmeyer of Dyersville; brother-in-law, Charles Burkle of Dyersville, and a sister-in-law, Anna Mae Tauke of Luxemburg
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert & Rose Geistkemper; his wife, Annetta H. Geistkemper in 2004; three sisters, Eleanor Hoeger, Marie Geistkemper, and Margie Geistkemper; four brothers, Elmer and infants, Walter, Joseph and Clarence Geistkemper; and two grandchildren, Christine & Timothy Geistkemper.
