Herbert F. Gallagher, Jr.

Herbert F. Gallagher, Jr., 80, of 214 Austin St. SW, died Friday, November 22, 2002, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2002, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Dave Miller, with military rites by Hanford Post #5. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2002, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ardis; a daughter, Sharon Stieger and husband Rick of Blue Grass, Iowa; a son, Bill Gallagher and wife Tammy of Cedar Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Julie Gallagher of Cedar Rapids; six grandsons, Chad, Cory, Kevin, Matt, Tim and Robby; one granddaughter, Nicole Stoddard; five great-granddaughters, Bailey, Rebecca, Katherine, Rachel, Jenna; one great-grandson, Jaystin; and a sister, Dorothy Mikesell of Belle Plaine, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Mike Gallagher; and a son, Dick Gallagher, who passed away July, 2002.
Herbert was born April 18, 1922, the son of Herbert and Violet (Burlingham) Gallagher, Sr, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, he served with the United States Army with the 11th Armored Division in World War II. Herbert was united in marriage to Ardis Jepson on March 23, 1946, in Cedar Rapids. For 36 years, he worked for LinkBelt/FMC, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Hanford Post #5. Herbert will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Herbert.
