Henry G. Van Dyke, 80, formerly of Mt. Vernon, and a resident of ManorCare Health Services, Cedar Rapids, died at the care center Tuesday, April 5, 2005, after a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Cedar Valley Bible Church in Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Tom Fogle. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial: Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, Illinois. Arrangements are by Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-four years, Louella; two sons, Jerry (Deb) Van Dyke of Marion and Aaron (Patti) Van Dyke of Bettendorf; five grandchildren, Kyle and Katie Van Dyke of Marion, and Daniel, Megan and Lauren Van Dyke of Bettendorf; and a sister, Ruth Rosenow of Morrison, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Wilma Zeeryp; and a grandson, Mark Van Dyke, who died in infancy.

Henry was the son of Albert and Elizabeth (Newendyke) Van Dyke and was born January 27, 1925, in Morrison, Illinois. On July 15, 1950, he was united in marriage to Mary Louella Griffith in Geneseo, Illinois. He attended Central College in Pella and Clinton Junior College. Henry was a medical technician in the office of Dr. Gordon Rahn in Mt. Vernon for forty years. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. Henry was a member of Cedar Valley Bible Church.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, Henry was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Henry?s memory.
