Henry E. Overman, Jr

Henry E. Overman, Jr., 63, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, March 10, 2008, of liver cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Leonard Ranson. Visitation: 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; son, David Overman; daughter, Lori Pratt (Jason); two grandchildren, Hayden and Jessica Pratt; faithful dog, Mindy; and Shadow, the intimidator cat.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin daughters, Cynthia and Julie in 1969; and sister, LaVonne Frondle.
Henry was born November 29, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Henry E. Overman, Sr. and Irene B. Happel. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1963. Henry went to work at Times Photo in 1963, where he met Cheryl Rains, the love of his life. They were married January 15, 1966, in Cedar Rapids. He started work at the Cedar Rapids Water Department in 1968 and retired June 5, 2007, after 39 years as plant operator at the J Avenue water purification plant. Henry was a wonderful and loving husband, father, and grandfather, whose number one priority was his family. His love and advice will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jolin, Dr. Berg, and nurses, Mary and Paula of University Hospitals of Iowa City, Dr. Bell and nurse Cindy Snyder from St. Luke’s Hospice, nurse Stephanie from Options and all the other health care professionals who cared for Henry.
