Henry “Hank” David Bertka, 36, of Luzerne, died Monday, July 14, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics, Iowa City, due to injuries received from an automobile accident. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Jennee Bertka; his daughter, Tegan Shanti Nava Bertka; his mother, Nancy Hope of Coralville, Iowa; his father, Thomas Bertka of Portland, Oregon; two brothers, Ben (Marissa) Bertka of College Station, Texas, and Josh Truhlar of Denver, Colorado; and two sisters, Naomi (Jason) Bertka-Ballard of Deltona, Florida, and Heather (Mark) Weber of Iowa City, Iowa.
Hank was born November 15, 1971, the son of Thomas Bertka and Nancy Hope Schlemmer in San Francisco, California. He had a heart for God, his family and friends. A graduate from Kirkwood Community College with a Graphic Arts degree, he was united in marriage to Jennee Mittan on May 6, 2006 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Hank was owner/tattoo artist of Hardcore Tattoo in Cedar Rapids.
He was an amazing husband and father who had a heart of gold, and was a good friend and adviser to all. Hank loved restoring and riding his Harleys, never missing the ride to Sturgis. Hank was a master artist, welder, painter and skateboarder.
