Henrietta Johnson Reed, 87, a resident of Manor Care Health Services, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died peacefully Tuesday, April 1, 2008, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 7, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Robert Daget. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, April 6, 2008, at the funeral home. The casket will be closed at all times. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughter, Marlene (James “Dan” Glandon) Johnson of Atkins; three grandchildren, Mark (Joy Jordan) Johnson of Appleton, Wisconsin, Tim (Diane Blewett) Johnson of North Liberty and Lisa (Bryan Hemphill) Kemmerling of Cedar Rapids; one great granddaughter, Tina Kemmerling; and a brother, Donald (Norma) Tapper of Leland, Iowa.
Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; six sisters; and four brothers.
Henrietta was born October 26, 1920, in Elmore, Minnesota, the daughter of Johan and Harmka (Stopplemoor) Tapper. On September 2, 1945, in Cedar Rapids, she was united in marriage to James Reed. He died September 22, 1985. Henrietta was a country school teacher and then was later employed as an inspector for Rockwell Collins for 33 years, retiring in 1984.
Henrietta was a long time member of Sharon United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing bingo.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Henrietta’s memory.
