Helen E. Walter, 96, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, August 4, 2012, at Centerville Rehabilitation Center, Centerville. A private burial was held at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, arranged by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
Survivors include her children, Lynn Donald Bradshaw of Joshua Tree, California, Lee Ronald Bradshaw of Centerville, Lylene “Shiny” Evelyn Bradshaw White Dutcher of Clayton, Oklahoma and Lorene “Lorie” Elaine Bradshaw of New York City; grandchildren, Candy Evelyn White Eads, Penny Lou White Sanders, Cindy Ellen White Stabe, Christy Lene White Slaughter, Merry Joy White Bryson Washburn, Hilary Gail Dutcher and Brandy Lynn Bradshaw McClelland; nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Helen married Jasper Donald Bradshaw in 1944, Arthur Herbert Wachal in 1965 and William “Bill” George Walter in 1972.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; and her sister, Vivian Elayne Clark Fackler.
Helen was born February 5, 1916, near Mount Vernon, the daughter of Gail Hodson Clark and Purl Oliver Clark. She was a direct descendant of Oliver Clark, Sr., one of the original settlers in Linn County and Major John Dance, a Civil War hero from Lisbon. Helen graduated from Old Washington High School in Cedar Rapids. Helen worked at Collins Radio, Searles Diary, Alburnett Consolidated Schools, Alburnett Farmers State Bank and Merchants State Bank. She later moved to Alburnett in 1951, where she raised her four children until 1970. She then returned to Cedar Rapids.
