Helen M. Vanourney, 95, of Central City, died Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at her home. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 27, 2007, at United Church of Christ in Central City, by Rev. Jonna Jensen. The family will greet friends from 2 ?" 5 p.m., Sunday, August 26, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Private family inurnment will be held at Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City.
Survivors include her children, Leona Waters of Cedar Rapids, Dorothy (John) Crilley of Marion, Betty (Paul) Supple of Marion, Leo (Karen) Vanourney of Cedar Rapids, Don (Loretta) Vanourney of Grand Junction, Colorado, Richard (Karen) Vanourney of Central City, Frank (Joanne) Vanourney of Marion, Lois Cornthwaite of Cedar Rapids, and Katy (Gary) Gadient of Anamosa.
Also surviving are 29 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents.
Helen was born June 1, 1912, the daughter of John and Naomi (Brown) Coufal, in Marengo, Iowa. She attended high school at Iowa City High School. Helen was a supervisor and housekeeper at St. Luke’s for over 20 years, retiring in 1974. She was active with senior dining at Falcon Civic Center and a member of Central City United Church of Christ.
Helen enjoyed traveling, gardening and caring for her flowers, mushroom hunting, word puzzles and handiworks.
