Helen Cleone Thompson, 87, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of 1829 J. Street SW, Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at the care center, following a extended illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2005, Asbury United Methodist Church, by Pastor Ed Powers. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughters, Sharon Hills of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Caryol Cress and husband Allen of Luzerne, Iowa, and Denise Hutton and husband Richard of LaPorte City, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Kevin Hills, Kimberly Ties, Scott Cress, Lori Yardley, Jeffrey Hutton, Shelley Flaherty, Jennifer Goodwin and Michael Hutton; 14 great-grandchildren, Heather and Kendall Ann Hills, Matthew and Nathan Ties, Kelsey Cress, Allison and Tyler Long, Payton and Samantha Yardley, Kayla and Dani Hutton, and Nathan, Jason and Jessica Flaherty; half-sister, Sharol Chevalier; half-brother, Neil Boleyn; and several nieces and nephews, including special niece, Lisa Boleyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin; a son-in-law, Robert Hills; two brothers, Robert and Roy Boleyn; and an infant sister.
Helen was born in Volga, Iowa, on February 5, 1918, the daughter of Benjamin Harrison (Harry) and Irma Irene Nolte Boleyn. On December 17, 1936, she married Edwin Holman Thompson. He died in 1983. Helen was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Helen.
