Helen Mary Rogness (Dvorak)

Helen M. Rogness, 89, of 271 Wilson Avenue S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Ossian, Iowa, died Monday, January 29, 2007, in Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center, following a battle with cancer. Services: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids by the Rev. Phil Jorgensen. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Ossian Cemetery, Ossian, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband, Olaf; two daughters, Susan (Rich) Krueger of Aurora, Illinois and Rita Kessell of Chicago; a son, Richard (Linda) Rogness of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Shelley Krueger, Katie Krueger, Kyle Kessell, Nicklaus (Brianne) Ulrich and Lindsey Rogness; a great granddaughter, Alicea Ulrich; a sister, Lillian Seery of Decorah; a brother-in-law, Victor Halverson of Ossian, Iowa, a sister-in-law, Ella Mae Dvorak of Ionia, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lucille (Edward) Dalen and Pearl Halverson; and a brother, Richard Dvorak.
Helen was born October 16, 1917, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Agnes (Langer) Dvorak. On May 17, 1947, she married Olaf Martin Rogness in Ossian, Iowa. She worked as a hair dresser and was a loving mother and grandmother.
Helen was an active member of Our Savior?s Lutheran Church where she enjoyed her time with the Do Day Quilters. She also attended Hope Lutheran Church for many years. She was known for her dish balls and enjoyed handiwork. She also loved flowers, gardening and bridge.
