Helen E. Potter, 82, of 1950 East Post Rd., a lifelong resident of Marion, died Friday evening, June 6, 2003, at St. Luke?s Hospital, following a sudden illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Stan Wierson. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph; her sons, Robert Potter and wife Denise and Boyd Potter and wife Barbara, all of Marion; a sister, Dorothy Ware and husband Richard; and four grandchildren, Jason Potter and wife Heather of Madison, Wisconsin, Charles Potter and fiancé Stefanie Wilson of Marion, Christina Potter of Dallas, Texas and Stacy Potter of Marion.

Helen was born October 7, 1920, the daughter of Irving and Hazel (Gray) Drake. She graduated from Marion High School in 1938. On May 2, 1945, she married Ralph W. Potter at the United Methodist Church in Marion. Helen was a secretary at Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church for twelve years until retiring in 1986. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion, United Methodist Women and Daughters of the Nile. Helen was elected Queen of the first Marion Corn Festival held prior to WWII.
