Helen Ethel Peterson, 85, of Vinton, Iowa, formerly of Center Point, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at Virginia Gay Hospital, Vinton, following a brief illness. Helen was born in the Time Check area of Cedar Rapids to Raymond and Christina Cunningham Sheftic on April 23, 1923. Helen was an only child. She attended Harrison and Roosevelt schools and Coe College. Helen was married to John Peterson on March 1, 1943, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. They thoroughly loved farming the land and raising animals.
Surviving is her husband, John of Northbrook Manor in Cedar Rapids; her beloved godchild, Pamela Nosek; sister-in-law, Bertha Oliphant and daughters; cousins, and nieces.
She had two loving grandmothers, Alvertie Pavlick and Helen Cunningham on whose birthday she shared and was named after; and a wonderful grandfather, Charles Pavlick.
Helen was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker and the Toddville American Legion Auxiliary.
