Memorial Services will be held in the spring with burial in Fairview Cemetery in Earlville. Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
Helen was born on February 4, 1920, in Earlville, Iowa, the daughter of Gustav R. & Effie L. [Rogers] Hahn. She received her education in the Earlville school system. Helen lived and worked in Earlville, Manchester, Independence and Waterloo. Living for a time in California, Helen received her LPN training. She returned to Iowa and worked in the burn unit at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, and in home health care at the Regional Medical Center, Manchester. In 1985, Helen married Raymond Mesch in Earlville.
Helen was a member of the Lutheran Church AICW in Earlville and the Manchester VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed watching the birds and had a pet parakeet named “Go Go.” Helen was a caring person, that she showed in her career as an LPN and visiting friends in the nursing home.
Helen is survived by her two daughters, Janet [Bruce] Ortberg of Sebring, Florida and Tana [Jerry] Wendling of Earlville, Iowa; eight grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav & Effie Hahn; her husband, Raymond Mesch; a infant daughter, Tela Harbaugh; a grandson, Damon Ortberg; a brother, Oscar Hahn; and three sisters, Freida Palmer, Annie Dettbarn, and Emma Clingapeel.
