H. Marlene Lisenbee, 77, of North Liberty, Iowa, formerly of Solon, died Saturday, December 25, 2010, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 3, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Solon, by Rev. Jim Vrba. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, January 2, 2011, at the church, where a scripture service will be held at 6 p.m. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her son, Robert (Terese) Lisenbee of North Liberty; son-in-law, Ben Van Etten of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, RJ and Jenni; great grandson, Landon Lisenbee-Mochal; and sisters, Norma Vogt of Marengo, Bette (Jack) McLean of Yucaipa, California and Bernita Zimmerman of Victorville, California.
Marlene was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and daughter, Carey Van Etten.
Born October 1, 1933, in Norway, Iowa, Marlene was the daughter of Raymond and Bernice (Hasley) Sullivan. She attended St. Matthias Catholic School in Muscatine and after moving to Cedar Rapids graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1951. On October 16, 1952, she was united in marriage to Robert Lisenbee and they lived in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, for a time. He died December 14, 2001. She worked as the director of financial aid at ACT until retiring in 1995.
Marlene was active in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization through ACT in Iowa City. She also helped produce a golf fund raiser for the 911 Search and Rescue Team.
Marlene enjoyed her family and grandchildren and was a wonderful caregiver to her aunt, mother and father in their later years.
She also enjoyed fishing and had a knack for catching the largest northern pike, horse racing, golfing, dancing and music.
