Helen Darlene Lamphier, 94, of Hiawatha, Iowa, formerly of Center Point, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018. Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home, Center Point. Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at First Christian Church, Center Point. Burial: 2:00 p.m. at Strawberry Point Cemetery, Strawberry Point, Iowa.
Helen was born September 30, 1924, in Clayton County, Iowa, the daughter of Elom and Mabel (Moyle) Lamphere. On February 14, 1943, she was united in marriage to Arnold Lamphier. Helen worked at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, in housekeeping and babysat for several years. Her greatest joy was being a farmwife and, taking care of her family. Helen loved her family, animals, camping, and family fish fries. She enjoyed crafting, crochet and quilting, making homemade baby blankets for her grandkids.
Helen is survived by her sons, Marvin (Marian) Lamphier, Marion (Diana) Lamphier, Cecil (Cathy) Lamphier of Arizona; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother, Henry (Gloria) Lamphere; partner, George Osterhaus; and her adopted family, including children, Chuck (Wendy) Osterhaus, Teresa Polton, Patricia Osterhaus, Al (C.J.) Osterhaus, Paul (Young) Osterhaus; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; niece Sharon Alderson; as well as many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arnold in 1987; brother, Harold Lamphere; sisters, Gladys Sargent, Florence Cordes and Dorothy Conner; and infant granddaughter, Georgina Helen Lamphier.
