Helen Rose Henderson, 85, a resident of the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, formerly of Central City, died Sunday, September 9, 2007, following a lengthy illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Central City by Father Wayne Droessler. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City where a parish vigil service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Burial: Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Coggon.
Survivors include two sons, William (Mary) Henderson of Central City and Michael Henderson of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Lisa (Thomas) Swanson of Manchester and Janice (Michael) Martin of Shellsburg; seven grandchildren, Kerry and Casey Boyle, Jennifer Swanson, Michael III, Justin and Christopher Martin, and Austin Henderson; two brothers, Everett McNulty of Hawkeye and Vernon McNulty of Waterloo; and a sister, Marilyn Harberts of Independence.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Kathryn; and three brothers, Basil McNulty, Eugene McNulty, and Russell McNulty.
Helen was born May 30, 1922, the daughter of Basil and Rose (Keller) McNulty in Wilmont, Minnesota. She attended West Union High School. Helen worked for several years as a Nurses Aide at West Union Memorial Hospital and later at the Mental Health Institute in Independence. Helen married Richard C. Henderson on August 6, 1947, at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union. Together, they owned and operated a family dairy farm in the Central City area for forty-five years and later separated.
Helen was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church and R, W, & O Club in Central City.
She was a loving mother and enjoyed cooking and gardening.
