Helen J. Gregersen, 72, of Manchester and formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday afternoon, August 12, 2003, at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, after a long illness.
Services will be at 10:30 am on Saturday at the First Baptist Church, Manchester, with Jerry Springston officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, and for one hour before services on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Manchester.
Helen was born on July 25, 1931, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of William Otis & Nancy J. (Buckallew) Downey. She attended school in Cedar Rapids. Helen was the head waitress at the Holiday Inn South for fourteen years before retiring in 1981 due to her health.
Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed dancing, going on picnics, and having fun with her family and many friends.
Helen is survived by her three children, Maxine (Kent) Gibbs of Manchester, James Bailey of Manchester, and Lester "Butch? Bailey of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two more blessings on the way; a sister, Maxine Herman of Crawfordsville, Indiana; and many others she dearly loved and "adopted? as her own children and grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, William, Harold & Garold Bruce; a sister, Vera Spore; a grandson, Joel Wayne Curly; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Herman.
