Helen Marie Porter-Talley-Chamberlain, 69, of Manchester, formerly of Cedar Rapids, IA, Bakersfield, CA, and Phoenix, AZ, entered into heavenly rest on Monday evening, October 6, 2003, at her home, after an extended illness.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2003 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa with Fr. Dennis Miller officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, and one hour before services on Monday. The rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester, Iowa.
Helen was born April 20, 1934 in Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Clair L. and Marguerite A. (Jarvis) Porter. She graduated from Delhi High School in 1951 and moved to Waterloo, Iowa to work at Rath Packing. In 1955, Helen was married to Paul Talley. Helen moved to Cedar Rapids in 1963, where Helen worked at Wilson Foods (Farmstead) before starting an upholstery shop. In 1984, she moved to Arvin, California and operated an upholstery shop there also. Helen moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1986 where she worked for American Express and Fry?s Groceries. In 1988, she graduated from the North American College of Phoenix in the Executive Secretary program. Paul preceded her in death and she later married Raymond W. Chamberlain.
Helen was an avid Arizona Diamondbacks baseball fan.
Helen is survived by her mother, Marguerite Porter of Manchester, IA; three daughters and their husbands, Shirley & Dave Anthony of Vinton, IA, Debra & Philip Lala of Marion, IA, Rhonda & Jon Vercande of Cedar Rapids, IA; one son and his wife, Paul Jr. & Linda Talley of Marion, IA; three step-daughters, Diane Bradford & her husband, Dan of Springfield, MO, Sharon Moffet of Marion, IA, Cheryl Pfantz of Austin, TX; two step-sons, Tom Chamberlain & his wife, Linda, of Vidor, TX, Theron Pfantz of DeRidder, LA; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a sister, Caroline Porter of Manchester, IA; four brothers, Donald Porter of Manchester, IA, Richard Porter of Fairfield, IA, Marvin Porter of Marion, IA, and Paul Porter and wife Janet of Lisbon, IA; three sister-in-laws, Jean Bothrum of Stoughton, WI, Helen Hickman of Garden City, KS, Isabelle Goad of Bakersfield, CA.
Helen was preceded in death by her father, Clair Porter; her husbands, Paul Talley, Sr. and Raymond W. Chamberlain; a daughter, Charlotte Kay Talley; a granddaughter, Deanna Jean Coleman, and a brother, Phillip James Porter.
A memorial fund has been established in Helen?s name.
