Helen J. Andrews Anderson, 84, of Toddville, died Monday, June 29, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2009, at Toddville Free Methodist Church by Pastor Burr Bryant. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Center Point. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, rural Toddville.
Survivors include her husband, Edward; three children, Carl (Kang) Anderson, Judith (Ron) Bruner, and Richard (Julie) Anderson; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are two sisters, Marge Andrews and Catherine (Joe) Dytrt and two brothers, Mike Andrews and Kenney (Shirley) Andrews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Marvin, Bruce, and Donald.
Helen was born December 9, 1924, the daughter of Wencil and Anna (Erickson) Andrews in Toddville. On November 28, 1947, she married Ed Anderson in Marion. Helen began teaching at 17 years old in one room school houses in Toddville, Swisher, and Prairieburg and taught school in Walker from 1967-1987. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and fishing as well as teaching her grandkids the essentials of life.
