Helen B. Akers, 73, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, December 16, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial service: 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2017, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Bob, Sr; children, Ken (Amy) Akers of Ankeny, Iowa, April (Drew) Tiedtke of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Bob Akers, Jr and Rich (Heather) Akers, both of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren, Samantha, Bridget, Hank, Abigail, Noah, Simon, Payton, Harrison and Zoey; sister, JoAnn (Erv) Petersen of Reinbeck, Iowa; and her nieces and nephews.
She was welcomed to Heaven by her parents; daughter, Sandy; grandson, Marvin Tiedtke; brother, Clarence Pisarik; and niece, Mary Ann Petersen.
Helen was born November 29, 1943, the daughter of Joseph “Pete” and Mabel (VanAntwerp) Pisarik, in Muscatine, Iowa. On November 26, 1960, she was united in marriage to Robert Akers, Sr at the St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Central City, Iowa. Helen enjoyed being a stay at home Mom. She was very active attending her children's and grandchildren's activities. Helen also enjoyed volunteering at the Taft Middle School and with the marching band at Jefferson High School.
Memorials may be directed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in memory of Helen.
