Hazel I. Sheehy, 94, formerly of Springville, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at St. Joseph?s Hospital in Tampa, Florida, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2005, at Springville United Methodist Church, Springville, Iowa, by the Rev. John Keizer. Burial: Springville Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 - 6 p.m. Sunday, (April 3,) at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include three daughters, Marlene (Black) Gardemann and husband Leon of Cedar Rapids, Judith Ann (Jerry) McMahan of Plano, Texas, and Barbara (Jack) Brown of Tampa, Florida; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marlin "Cook? Sheehy; three brothers, Paul, Alva and Ernest Smith; and a grandson, Douglas.
Hazel was born October 13, 1910, the daughter of John W. and Celia I. (Perfect) Smith in New Sharon, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Marlin E. "Cook? Sheehy on October 4, 1936, in Delta, Iowa. He died April 12, 1989. Hazel graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1928 and lived in New Sharon for seven years following her marriage. The couple moved to Springville in 1943. She joined Springville United Methodist Church in 1946 and was an active member of United Methodist Women-Bethany Circle. Hazel was also a longtime member of the Paralta Club.
