Hazel E. Phelps, 90, of Marshalltown, formerly of Manchester, died Friday, June 2, 2006 at Villa Del Sol in Marshalltown.
Private graveside memorial services will be at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester at a later date. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
Hazel was born on March 28, 1916 in Dysart, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Messer) Zobel. She graduated from Oneida High School. On May 27, 1935 Hazel was united in marriage to Donald E. Phelps in Oneida. The couple farmed in the Manchester area. Hazel worked at the Delaware County Memorial Hospital for five years as a nurses? aid and as an x-ray technician for twenty years. For the past thirteen years, Hazel lived in Marshalltown near her daughter.
Hazel is a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of Eastern Star and the Grange. She enjoyed gardening, needlework and playing 500.
Hazel?s family includes her daughter, Shala (Joe) Ludley of Marshalltown; three grandchildren, JoAnn (Steve) Herndon, Alice (Steve) Futrell and Mark (Alanna) Ludley; and five great-grandchildren, Caitlyn & Jacob Herndon, Harrison & Lydia Futrell, and Audrey Ludley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Clara Zobel; her husband, Donald Phelps in 1978; a brother, Homer Zobel; and a sister, Fern Zobel.
