Hazel M. Mote, 91, a resident of Heritage Nursing and Rehab, died there Saturday evening, October 7, 2006, following a short illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Gary Sneller of Cedar Christian Church. Friends may call from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include her children, Barbara (Wally) Krouse, of Cedar Rapids, James (Joy) Mote of Delhi, Iowa and Ken (Mary) Mote of Robins, Iowa.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Jeff (Cathy) Krouse of Fairfax, Dave (Sherri) Krouse of Gilbert, Arizona, Jill Mote of Cedar Rapids, Jay (Mary) Mote of Grayslake, Illinois, Jon (Katie) Mote of University Park, Maryland, Kelly (Mike) Martin, Kevin (Patty) Mote, both of Mt. Vernon, Iowa and Jennifer (Greg) Freeland of Chandler, Arizona; 12 great-grandchildren, Jenna, Parker and Hunter Krouse, Sasha, Lulu, Mia, Casey and Tanner Mote, Bridget and Connor Martin and Callaway and Mitchell Freeland; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jane and Wayne Beauregard of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; and siblings, Ida Russell, Mae Clift, Verle Gnagy, Roy Gnagy, Dororthy Gnagy Cheek, Clyde Williams, Blair Williams, Hobart Gnagy, Evelyn Gnagy and Lyle Williams.
Born October 27, 1914, in Albany, Illinois, she married James Harold Mote on June 10, 1933, in Morris, Illinois. He died October 10, 1980. Hazel was a 50-yr member of Cedar Christian Church. She was active in Cub Scouts, PTA at Wilson High School and a volunteer at St. Luke?s. Hazel was an excellent seamstress, who made majorette uniforms and cheerleader outfits for Wilson High School. She enjoyed rug weaving, loved to sing and play the piano and was TOPS Queen of the Eastern Iowa District.
