Hazel Bernice Cook, 95, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center, formerly of Central City, died Saturday, December 23, 2006, in the care center following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2006, at United Church of Christ in Central City, by Rev. Jonna Jensen. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett. Friends may call Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Central City.
Survivors include four stepchildren, Donald Cook of Bryan, Texas, Delores Frantz of Marion, Barbara Fiala of Cedar Rapids and Bill Cook of Central City. Also surviving are several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Herman Hackert, her second husband, Robert Cook, a sister, Sylva and two brothers, George and Fred Russell.
Hazel was born the daughter of Fred and Lizzie (Thompson) Schultz on June 25, 1911, in Marion. On March 14, 1932, she was married to Herman Hackert in Cedar Rapids. He died May 3, 1973. She then married Robert Cook on January 11, 1975, in Hiawatha. He died November 3, 1977. Hazel was a member of United Church of Christ in Central City, Agoma Class, Friendly Garden Club and N.E. Linn Senior Citizens Club. For several years Hazel resided at Four Oaks in Central City
