Harriett Jane “Granny” Jamison, 80, of Cedar Rapids passed away at the Hiawatha Care Center on April 16, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Jane, as she was known, was born Sept. 12, 1927, in Wellman, Iowa, the daughter of Pierre and Frances Huffman. Survivors include her sister, Judy Pinch of Phoenix, her brother Robert Huffman (wife, Martha) of Iowa City, sons Robert (wife, Liz) Jamison of Phoenix, Kirk (wife, Sheree) Jamison of Aurora, Colorado, and daughters Penny Novak and Pam Smith, both of Cedar Rapids. Jane leaves behind eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Other survivors include Gary Smith and Pam and Ed Bock, all of whom lovingly cared for Jane over the years.
Prior to her illness, Jane volunteered at a number of organizations including Meals on Wheels and the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City. She also served on the board of the Preston Terrace Condominium Association while a resident there. She often could be seen taking her beloved schnauzer, “Jazzy” on long walks. Prior to retirement Jane worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City and St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Jane was a fiercely independent woman who liked to “tell it like it is.” “Get your fandango over here” and “He’s a little foody-doo” were two of her familiar and favorite lines.
The family requests no flowers, but suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, Colorado Chapter (Team Muddy and Jane) 455 Sherman St., Suite 500, Denver, CO 80203. A celebration of life will be held for Jane on July 5, 2008, when family and friends can gather together to remember her life. She will be missed or as Jane herself might have said, “We were lucky to have her.”
