Harriett W. Caraway, 83, of Mount Ayr, IA formerly of Marion, IA, died Thursday, November 18, 2004, at the Mt. Ayr Health Care Center in Mount Ayr, following a lingering illness. Services: Monday, November 22, 10 a.m. at St Joseph?s Catholic Church in Mount Ayr by the Rev. Thomas Dooley. Prayer service 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening, November 21, visitation 7 to 8 p.m. at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home, Mt. Ayr. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday evening, November 22, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Graveside Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 23 at Campbell Cemetery in Bertram, IA.
Harriett was born February 3, 1921, at Marion, IA, to Glenn and Marie (Stoneking) Platner and was united in marriage to George J. Caraway, October 17, 1939, in Linn County. George preceded her in death on August 6, 1988 after 48 years of marriage.
Harriett was a member of St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Mt. Ayr. She and her husband spent their lives together farming. She was active in 4-H and her church.
Surviving are three sons, George D. (Karen) Caraway of Worthington, MN, Clarence (Mary) Caraway of Lake Benton, MN, and Kenneth Caraway of Mount Ayr; a daughter Mary Sue (Ned) Detert of Cedar Rapids, sisters, Pauline Austin, Marion, IA, Glenna Whitmarsh, San Antonio, TX, Mary Leget, Maquoketa, IA, brother, Allen (Marilyn) Platner, Marion, IA, brother-in-law, Louis Tickal, Cedar Rapids, IA, 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 step grandson, 3 step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne.
