Harold E. Stewart, 76, of Anamosa, Iowa, formerly of Springville, died Sunday, October 9, 2005, in Jones Regional Medical Center, Anamosa, after a brief illness.

Harold was born May 5, 1929, at home in rural Linn County, the son of Paul and Gwendolyn (Rieger) Stewart. On October 22, 1955, he was united in marriage to Nancy Ellen Thompson at Jordan?s Grove Baptist Church in rural Central City. She preceded him in death on November 28, 2003.

Harold was a graduate with the Class of 1947 at Springville High School. He farmed in Linn County and became an independent insurance agent for thirty-five years, founding and owning Stewart Insurance Agency in Springville. Harold retired in 2000.

Harold was a member of Springville United Methodist Church, Springville Masonic Lodge No. 139, AF&AM, Springville Lions Club and served as a board member for the Spring House. He was also a member of the Anamosa Rotary Club.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen P. Stewart, M.D. and wife Dorothy of Westminster, Colorado, and Curtis E. Stewart of Anamosa; three grandsons, Christopher Stewart of Rochester, Minnesota, Nathan (Lindsey) Stewart of O?Fallon, Missouri, and Aaron Stewart and fiancée Sara Ochsankehl of Madison, Wisconsin; and a great-grandson, Dylan Stewart of O?Fallon, Missouri.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his parents; and a brother, Ronald in 1982.

Family and friends may visit from 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 12) at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2005, at Springville United Methodist Church, Springville, Iowa, by the Rev. John Keizer, with Masonic rites by Springville Masonic Lodge 139, AF&AM. Inurnment: Jordan?s Grove Cemetery, rural Central City.

A memorial fund has been established for the EMS of the Anamosa and Springville Fire departments. (If you wish, please designate the preferred department.)
