Harold (Shorty) Norris, 77, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, September 23, 2003, in Poudre Valley Hospital, Fort Collins, Colorado, following a brief illness. Services: 1:30 p.m., Saturday, September 27, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids by Rev. Bill Harnish. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2003, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery.
Survivors include his daughters, Sue (Don) Michel, of Fairfax, Iowa and Linda (Ted) Smith, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five grandchildren, Ted (Lisa) Smith, Tracy Simmons, Tiffany (Aaron) Miller, John (Lisa) Michel and Joe Michel; five great-grandchildren, Justin Simmons, Jason Smith, Maddie Miller and Parker and Claire Michel; a brother, Paul (Ann) Norris of Independence, Iowa; and a special friend, Irene Olson; and numerous nieces and nephews. .
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a son, Greg; 1 sister; and 3 brothers.
Harold was born June 7, 1926, in Redding, Iowa, the son of Albert and Nora (Hudson) Norris. He married Leta Hobbs on February 1, 1947, in Troy, Kansas. She died August 11, 2000. Harold retired from the Cedar Rapids Street Department and prior to that he worked for Cramer Brother?s Construction and Cummins Sign Company. He served in the United States Army.
