Harold L. Lanning, 94, of Toddville, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Meth-Wick Community. The family will greet friends from 12:30 – 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at Toddville Free Methodist Church in Toddville. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the church with Pastor Tim DeVries officiating. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed at https://youtu.be/pG1xiZU0F0A . Burial will take place at Lafayette Cemetery in rural Alburnett, Iowa, with full military honors. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.

Harold was born on December 2, 1926, in Toddville, the son of Ernest and Lorraine (Evans) Lanning. He was a 1944 graduate of Center Point High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army during World War II. On July 6, 1947, Harold was united in marriage to Geraldine Butters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He farmed in the Toddville area for over 40 years and was a bus driver for the Center Point Schools. Harold was an active member of the Toddville Free Methodist Church where he was the Sunday school superintendent and teacher. He also was a member of Open Arms and a former member of the Toddville American Legion. Harold loved the outdoors; walking, traveling, tending to his big garden, working in the fields, and feeding the birds. Harold loved the Lord and his family most of all.

Harold is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 73 years, Geraldine Lanning; two daughters, Judy (Carl) Fields of Cedar Rapids and Linda (Marvin) Morris of Hudson, Iowa; grandson, Rodney (Melanie) Morris of Alexandria, Virginia; granddaughter, Jennifer (James) Yenser of South Windsor, Connecticut; great-granddaughter, Tahlia Yenser of South Windsor, Connecticut; sister, Betty (Donald) Hein of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, Shirley Lanning of Alburnett and Neva Lanning of Marion; brother-in-law, Leonard Miller of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald and Richard Lanning; and sister, Juanita Miller.

The family would like to thank the staffs at The Meth-Wick Manor’s 4th floor Assisted Living and the Woodlands for the excellent loving care that they gave Harold.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Toddville Free Methodist Church.
