Harold C. Henecke, 86, of Linn Manor Care Center passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2013, after a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2013, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids conducted by Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer of St. Paul’s UMC. Family will greet friends from 2-4 p. m. Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the funeral home.
Harold is survived by his daughters, Karen (Ron) White of Cedar Rapids, Barb (Jim) Steggall of Cedar Rapids and Nancy (Dan) Kellen of Marion; sister-in-law, Donna (Cyril) Etscheidt of Watkins; grandchildren, Jeff (Rita) White of Cedar Rapids, Julie (Rocky) Hiemstra of Cedar Rapids, Tracey (Mark) Saunders of Bollingbrook, IL, Scott (Tanya) Powell of Fairfax, IA, Tara (Rob) Roos of Highlands Ranch, CO Dan (Kelly) Kellen Jr. of Cedar Rapids and Jon (Tami) Kellen of Farmington, MN; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta; parents; three brothers, LeRoy, Paul and Walter; and two sisters, Alta Blood and Edna Stratton.
Harold was born on May 20, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, son of Ernest and Beaula (McArthur) Henecke. He married Alberta D. Mefferd on May 15, 1944 in Iowa City. Alberta passed away December 20, 2001. A lifetime resident of Cedar Rapids, Harold and Alberta were married for 57 years. He worked as a foreman for Universal Engineering for 40 years and retired in 1990. Harold served three years in the United States Navy in WWII.
Harold was a 53 year member of the Cedar Rapids Christian Church. His passion was his yard. Harold spent hours working in his yard making sure it was just perfect. At the end of the day he would sit in a lawn chair and admire the beauty of his days work.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Hospice of Mercy.
