Harold (Butch) Henderson, 81, of Coggon, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, following a sudden illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City, by Rev. Jen Filter. The family will greet friends from 4 ?" 8 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2008, at the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 7:00. Inurnment: Coggon Cemetery, Coggon.
Harold was born January 18, 1927, the son of Leslie and Hazel (Trumbull) Henderson, at the Grandview Farm south of Coggon. He attended the Stone School and graduated from Coggon High School in 1944. Harold farmed with his father and married Waneitta Ayers on December 23, 1945. To this union was born three sons: Steven (Jackie) Henderson of Anamosa, Denny (Roxann) Henderson of Wexford, Pennsylvania, and Roger (Debbie) Henderson of Coggon.
Harold was a milk hauler for the Coggon Creamery for 14 years. Butch and Waneitta owned and operated H & W Dry Good in Coggon for 22 years. He was also a bus driver for the Coggon and North Linn Schools for 22 years. Harold was a 60-year Mason and Past Master, as well as holding other offices, at Mecca Lodge #523 AF & AM of Coggon. He was a member of the Lion’s Club since 1965, serving as President. Harold was also President of the Coggon Memorial Foundation since it was formed in 1980.
Harold enjoyed golfing, working outdoors, dancing and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Waneitta; his children; a sister, Velma Brown of Iowa City, and a brother, Dick Henderson of Cedar Rapids. Seven grandchildren, Jolene Colpo, Steven Henderson, Lynette Paulus, Lisa & Tricia Henderson, Jason & Jessica Henderson and 11 Great-Grandchildren: Zachary & Kelsey Paulus, Shane, Reid & Logan Colpo, Abby, Maegan & Janie Henderson, Isabella, Isaiah, and Isaac Henderson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Florence Hoag.
