Harold E. Hasley, 83, of 845 Hillview Drive, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 3 - 8 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a parish vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2003.
There will be a graveside salute by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion following burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Harry was born April 23, 1919. He married Betty Jane Allard of Cedar Rapids on August 29, 1952. Together they raised two sons, Terry and Douglas.
Survivors include his grandchildren, Brian McKenna of Kalona and Amy Hasley of Mason City; his brother, Earl Hasley; two sisters, Leoma Zimmerli and Maryann Grabe; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his sons, Terry and Douglas; his parents, Andrew and Minnie Brecht Hasley; and siblings, Eldo Hasley, Melvin Hasley, Velma Maloney and Viola Cox Reynolds.
Harry served in the United States Army in New Guinea and the Philippines during WWII. On April 21, 2001, Senator Tom Harkin decorated Harry for valor with medals including four Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantryman?s Badge at a special ceremony at the Marion American Legion Post No. 298.
Harry was a Teamster and salesman for 35 years for Fleck Sales. He was very proud of his long-standing membership in the Teamsters Union and of his long relationship with Keith Fleck and Fleck Sales.
Harry was a loving husband and father. He loved to hunt, fish, garden and play cards. He also enjoyed playing and watching baseball.
His family and his many friends, especially those at the Marion American Legion and at the Marion HyVee, will miss him.
Harry Hasley loved this country dearly.
