Harold W. Franson, 89, a resident of the Guttenberg Care Center, formerly of Walker, died Saturday, November 23, 2002, at the care center, following a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2002, at United Parish Church in Coggon by Rev. Jim King. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Burial: Coggon Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl; two daughters, Joyce (Robert) Jones of Lincoln, Nebraska and Janet Hughes of Troy, Alabama; two step-children, Kenny (Lynn) Swanson of Pasco, Washington and Karen Kulper (Stan Blair) of Guttenberg; a sister, Aldine (Clarence) Manning of Federal Way, Washington; a brother, C. Kenneth (Arloa) Franson of Coggon; two brothers-in-law, Harold Fowler of Fargo, North Dakota and Bud Fowler of Rushford, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Bradley Andersen, Alecia Anderson, Harold McKuhn, Cindy Hughes and Dona Staggs; a step-grandchild, Denise Meyer; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; a brother, Claire; a sister, Helen; and an infant sister.
Harold was born November 6, 1913, in Edgar, Nebraska, the son of Edward and Huldah (Smith) Franson. He was raised in Nebraska and moved to Iowa in 1944. He first married Agnes Tomlin in 1939. She died in 1968. Harold then married Pearl I. (Fowler) Swanson in Coggon on February 28, 1970. He was a farmer all of his life and drove school bus for many years. Harold was a member of United Parish in Coggon.
Harold enjoyed visiting, traveling and playing cards. He and his wife, Pearl, spent many winters in Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor?s choice or to a fund being established by the family in Harold?s memory.
