Harold Edwin Etzel, 81, of Alburnett, died Sunday, October 9, 2005, at Northbrook Care Center in Cedar Rapids following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Doug Miller. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett with military honors.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Vivian of Alburnett; two sons, Kerry of Coulter and Dennis "Butch? (Edna) of Alburnett; two grandchildren, Mike (Deb) Etzel and Kim Etzel, both of Alburnett; and three great-grandchildren, Matt, Tayler and Dean Etzel.

Also surviving are two sisters, Geraldine Jones of Cedar Rapids and Bertha Etzel of Marion; and a nephew, Tom (Pat) Jones and their daughter Katie of Marion.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Esther Brown.

Harold was born October 28, 1923, the son of Ernest and Ina (Johnson) Etzel in Marion. He graduated from Alburnett High School in 1943. On March 25, 1944, he married Vivian Maxine Kirk in Center Point. Harold served with the U.S. Army in Germany during WWII.

Harold was a member of Toddville American Legion Post No. 674 who will provide military honors and a board member of Farmer Mutual Telephone Company and Farmers Elevator, both of Alburnett. He and his wife, Vivian, were caretakers of Lafayette and Alice cemeteries for many years.
