H.D. "Bud" Jeffrey, 72, of Marion, died Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Cedar Hills Community Church, Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the church, by Pastor Kent Landhuis and Pastor Leonard “Doc” Ranson. Private family burial will take place at Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha. Military rites will be provided by Marion American Legion Post #298. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Bud is survived by his wife of 54 years, Charlene; two children, Dana (Dan) Sullivan of Omaha, NE and Rick (Angie) Jeffrey of Derby, KS; three grandchildren Christopher and Jeffrey Sullivan and Chelsea Hopkins; two sisters, Donna McDonald and Marlene King.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Phyllis.
Bud was born May 5, 1940, in Enders, NE, the son of Van and Helen (Meyer) Jeffrey. Bud grew up in Ogallala, NE and graduated from Ogallala High School in 1958. On September 6, 1958 he was united in marriage to Charlene Hammond. He was a United States Navy Veteran. Bud worked as both an electronic engineer and a computer programmer for Rockwell Collins for 36 years. He was a member of the Marion American Legion Post #298 and had been a volunteer for the Hiawatha Fire and Rescue Department for 9 years.
In boyhood Bud joined the “Sea Scouts” and especially loved his time with the United States Navy. He loved to fix things that were broken. Bud loved all car racing and was an avid Nascar fan. He liked to play pool and cards, especially 5-point pitch. He also enjoyed doing the Sudoku puzzles daily. Bud loved to travel the back roads. He loved to go fishing, camping and especially loved exploring Arizona together with his wife, Charlene.
